“A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for a time of adversity” (Proverbs 17:17 NIV)

During this time of COVID-19 and social distancing, we have had our troubles and struggles; it is a time of adversity. No one knows when there will be a remedy for this virus and when this season of perseverance will end. With that said, most of us have been comforted and supported by friends and family. When we turn on the TV, we are able to view a picture of where we stand. And most importantly, who we are as individuals. With this social distancing, evidence is clear that we are able to come together creatively. We do not allow our circumstances to affect relationships. There are many encouraging messages, from our leaders, our professionals, our support workers, our families (pets included), friends and neighbours.
During this time, we open ourselves up creatively so we are not alone. There may have been times when we imposed ourselves upon others so we could find relief. We have directed ourselves outward, in one way or another, so we could be provided with needed support. Meanwhile, we are trying to be loyal by putting efforts forward to abide by the restrictions we have been given. We are all in this together!

But, who deserves our unlimited trust?

Our “brother was born for times of adversity”; our brother we have in Christ. He was the one who loves us so much that he died for our sins. By His resurrection He became a brother to all of us. Building trust is having open conversations with Christ, our “friend who loves at all times”. He is the One who provides us with peace.

Our Heavenly Father, thank you for the brother we have in Christ. As we try to persevere during this time of COVID-19, forgive us for not always putting our confidence in Him. Thank you Christ for being our friend who loves at all times. We ask that we recognize and honour Him. Amen.
